Good Day for the Blues

Good morning guys! Just a few updates on my progress so far.
So it's already been 16 days since I quit my housemanship.
Only got one confirmed job so far, as a product specialist (which is a nicer name for a salesman) and I need to start working on the 18th of June.
No replies yet from any pharmaceutical companies, despite having sent my applications to every pharmaceutical group I cant think of (Merck, Roche, Novartis, GSK, Pfizer, etc).
But I wasn't really hoping to a land a job as a drug rep anyway.
What would be nice is to get a job as a medical underwriter or claims assessor/investigator with a health/life insurance company, as suggested by cardiprin. I've applied to ING, AXA, Prudential, MISC Zurich, Etiqa, and a few more.
Oh, and my Flexi claim allowance has finally been credited to my bank account. That should help me to survive for a while.
I've got a nice song for the kind of situation I'm in right now. You guys listen to blues?

Ruth Brown - Good Day for the Blues

I got up early this morning
so I can walk the floor
I've got to hit the streets
cause there's a wolf outside my door
the bill collector's calling
and my kids need better shoes
gonna go to church on Sunday
cause I got nothing left to lose
and it's a good day
it's a real good day for the blues

It's raining cats and dogs outside
and I'm looking for a job
the man I worked for laid me off
Lord did I work for him real hard
but I won't let my kids go hungry
no matter what I have to do
and it's a good day
it's a real good day for the blues

Things are getting better
the check is in the mail
I just threw my last dime
in the wishing well
and it's a good day
a real good day for the blues

I got up early this morning
so I can walk the floor
I've got to hit the streets
cause there's a wolf outside my door
gonna go to church on Sunday
Lord I got nothing to lose
and it's a good day
it's a real good day for the blues

  1. Hi there,

Ur blorg is the 2nd, by far dat caught my attention thruout my googlin effort on "houseman susah" hahaha. The title of ur blorg itself gav me quite a shock as like, is dis the reality of wats goin on for junior docs? My bro will be completin his medic degree soon and though nt bein so close to him, to see my on blood related fella to go thru those tormentin phase of life is, kinda saddenin.

    ps: we're kinda neighbours actually.

  2. Well, there's a reason a few houseman committed suicide, and some just went cuckoo. But if ur bro has the passion for medicine, then he should be able to get through it just fine. It's just that most HO nowadays are becoming doctors not because they want to, but because of parents decision. That's why they are unable to cope with the stress and workload. It's a very challenging job.
Anyway, u're living nearby? lol. :p

    1. product specialist, product consultant, those are just fancy names for salesman. in some company, product specialist means u have to know the product inside out, but u're not directly involved in the sales. maybe u'll have to do a demo or a presentation to the clients from time to time, but the sales part will be done by the sales team.
in this company, and i believe in most companies as well, product specialist means u have to know the product, do demos and presentations, as well as selling it.
ur targets will be GP, medical centres, and private hospitals.
wish u good luck in getting ur job! :)

    1. The requirements are not difficult. Just apply, and they'll send you a form to fill up, and then you can pay them on registration day. More details here:

I didnt go for the SHO course, cos I didn't have the time to attend the courses.
